A mode of operation for photoelectronic sensors. The transmitter and the receiver are enclosed in two separate housings. The transmitter and the receiver are mounted such that the light beam emitted by the transmitter strikes the lens at the receiver. If the light beam is interrupted, the output is switched accordingly.
